De Ion is in wezen een kortere Fusion, en niet alleen is 'Ion' een passend korter deel van de naam van zijn grotere broer zonder het thema van de deeltjesfysica te verliezen, het woord is afgeleid van het Griekse woord dat 'gaan' betekent.

Een kortere boot is beter geschikt voor kortere reizen, is bovendien wendbaarder en gemakkelijker te vervoeren en op te slaan. Omdat het doel van de Ion niet is om zulke avontuurlijke avonturen aan te gaan als zijn grotere broer, is Pyranha er ook in geslaagd de uitrusting functioneel, maar toch eenvoudig en licht te houden.

De stabiliteit, voorspelbaarheid, eenvoud en gebruiksgemak zorgen ervoor dat de Ion een plezier is om te bezitten en te peddelen. The Ion is, in essence, a shorter Fusion, and as well as 'Ion' being an appropriately shorter proportion of its bigger brother's name without losing the particle physics theme, the word is derived from the Greek word meaning 'to go'.

A shorter boat is better suited to shorter journeys, as well as being more manoeuvrable and easier to transport and store; as the aim of the Ion is not to take on as committing adventures as its larger sibling, we've also been able to keep the outfitting functional but simple and light, to reduce not only the overall weight of the boat, but the complexity of getting it set up and ready 'to go'.
